1. How long will the process take?
An average size house may take 5 days to complete whereas one room would take 3 days to complete with the application of 3 coats of polyurethane. We suggest that one gives at least 48hrs after the final coat is applied before moving furniture back onto the floors.

2. When can I walk on my floors?
It takes 8-10hrs for the finish to dry before one can gain access to the room. Please feel the floor with your hand to make sure it’s not tacky before walking across the room. Please note that some areas may still be tacky while others may feel dry.

3. What is the best type of wood?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Oak flooring is a staple in the industry, however, a variety of woods are available which may be more aesthetically pleasing to the individual. Flooring comes in many different varieties of color, tones, and hardness from around the world. From bamboo to Brazilian cherry to Canadian maple let your imagination guide you as the choices are unlimited.

4. Can I dye my floor dark or light?
To darken the wood we use a Lockwood’s water dye followed by an oil base stain to enhance the depth of the color and to mask the different grains and tones of the wood. To lighten the wood we can apply a bleach and then a water base polyurethane to give the fresh sanded look. We could also apply a white stain to pickle or white wash the floor.

5. I don’t want to have the sanding done, what about the pre-finished products?
Explain the different products

Installing a pre-finished floor from the factory is a way to forgo the sanding process. Almost every wood available can be pre-finished in a variety of colors and finishes. Because the finishes are sprayed and then baked on, water base or aluminum oxide polyurethanes are used. The boards will have eased edges to allow for the deviations of the milling process. We try to use full thickness 3/4” boards which can be re-finished in years to come to extend longevity of your floors.

6. I have heard a lot about Bamboo, what can you tell me about bamboo flooring?
Bamboo is actually a grass. Bamboo has been used in the Orient for generations in many different facets of the building industry. Bamboo flooring is very hard and durable. The flooring comes pre-finished in a vertical or horizontal grain. The boards are usually 5/8” thick by 3-5/8” wide and either 3’ or 6’ lengths. The rapid growth of bamboo makes this flooring a renewable forestry product.
